Hi Friends! Today is about a recipe very dear to me. Which is over 100 years old. For me it represents a memory and I wish to share it here in my Journal of recipes. It used to be a cake for celebration, especially for Christmas time. It’s a delightful dessert , layered cake, that combine the sweet sirup with the rich, earthy flavour of walnuts.
Ingredients for the dough:
- 350 g flour
- 150 ml water
- Oil and salt
Ingredients for simple sirup:
- 350 g sugar
- 500 ml water
We will also need 500 g walnuts.
Methods:
- In a bowl start making the dough by mixing the flour, salt, oil and the water. Mix well until a dough is formed. Let it rest for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Prepare your working table by sprinkling flour and start rolling thin, circle shape of dough.
- In a hot pan, dry roast the sheets of dough. From this recipe you can get around 20 sheets
- Next step in our recipe is to make the simple sirup by adding in a pan the sugar and water.
- Place the pan on a stove, let the sirup reach the boiling point and make sure the sugar is all dissolved.
- Let the sirup cool down.
- Use a cake form to assemble the cake and start at the bottom with a sheet of dry roasted dough.
- Use the cold sirup to wet the roasted dough then sprinkle walnuts and sugar.
- Repeat the process until you used all the dry roasted dough.
- Let the cake cool down in the fridge for up to 6 hours for the layers to absorb all the sirup.
- Enjoy with a glass of cold lemonade.
